About UHMERI
I'm Ameri! The hands behind UHMERI!
What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into something I never expected: a handmade world of my own!
I used art as my escape from a heavy mind and sometimes eerie world. I learned a lot of sculpting and painting skills through hours and hours of youtube videos. In middle school, I began making polymer clay charms for friends as gifts and found myself making new charms every week!
Things changed once I reached high school, I put the clay down and picked the liquid latex. I focused on glam and SFX makeup, putting my sculpting skills to good use while learning more about anatomy and details. After graduating high school, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do. I didn't want to sell my art because honestly, I was scared of taking the joy out of the only thing that brought it to me.
I worked many part time jobs, explored different lifestyles, and even ended up going to community college for 2 years. Still, I felt so stagnant in my life and filled it with a WHOLE LOT of nothing good for me. Then, April 2019, I quit my job (at THAT coffee store), used my last paycheck to buy some art supplies and found my passion for sculpting and painting all over again.
(I'd also like to mention, I am very fortunate to live with my mother while starting my business. Thank you forever, mama!)
I went to my first market with 4-5 handmade ashtrays. Nothing sold that day but the feeling of connecting with other creative people was enough for me to realize what I needed to make my life feel whole again.
However, I had $0 in my bank account and needed to get more supplies so I doordashed throughout the day and sculpted when I had time in between. This went on for 3-4 years. Finally, things slowly but surely picked up and I'm here today making just about anything out of clay for you! Thank you all for supporting me and allowing me to make this my full time job, career, dream come true <3
The Process
Almost everything you see in the shop is hand sculpted by me (I use beige Super Sculpey). Other items in the shop, like the gummy bear lighter case, are sculpted from clay, then made into a silicone mold and casted with resin or gypsum! *see descriptions for materials*
Once shaped, each piece is painted with acrylic paint (I use multi surface FolkArt) and given its one of a kind personality.
After everything is sculpted, baked, and painted, I use a high-gloss UV resin to give my pieces a satisfying, glossy look and keep them protected for the long haul.
My husband, Chandler, also helps with a lot of the process! He helps with base coating, resining, and keychain making, along with 3D printing tools for us to use!
My Mission
I think everyone deserves nice things. I try to keep my prices as low as possible while keeping the quality to my standards, so anyone can have the chance at owning something handmade and special. I put love into every piece and am truly so grateful to be able to share my art with you.
